Free training is offered on January 16, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service, to those interested in enhancing the lives of hospice patients and their families.
(LOUISVILLE, KY) — Hosparus Health is encouraging members of the community to kick off their New Year’s resolutions by volunteering with the not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organization. The year’s first free, in-person volunteer training session is scheduled on the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service on Monday, January 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville.
“We are excited to offer our first volunteer training of the year on this National Day of Service honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” said Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer. “Our volunteers exemplify Dr. King’s vision of bringing people together to build a beloved community. They provide our organization with a wide range of skills and talents and choose to share those gifts in many ways. The one thing they all have in common is a willingness to give of themselves to make a difference in someone else’s life.”
Hosparus was founded by volunteers more than 40 years ago, and they still play a vital role in providing compassionate care, comfort and support to seriously ill patients and their family members to this day in Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties. Depending on their interests, volunteers offer presence and support to patients and respite to their caregivers, bereavement care, and veteran-to-veteran companionship. Currently, Hosparus is especially in need of patient care volunteers, who visit patients for a couple of hours, wherever they call home.
The deadline for registering for the January 16 training is Wednesday, January 12, 2023. Interested volunteers can register by submitting a volunteer application at hosparushealth.org/volunteer. Hosparus will reach out to confirm registration for this session or one at a later date. All volunteers must supply documentation for COVID-19 and flu vaccinations before training. For questions or general information about other volunteer opportunities at Hosparus Health, contact Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer at syeasayer@hosparus.org.
