Free training on July 15 for new volunteers who want to enhance the lives of others.

(LOUISVILLE, KY) — Hosparus Health is looking for volunteers willing to use their talents to help patients and families facing serious illnesses. The nonprofit organization is offering a free, in-person training session for new volunteers on Saturday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville.

“There are a variety of opportunities available, and we work with our volunteers to find a fit that matches their interests,” said Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer. “Some volunteers provide companionship to patients and respite for their caregivers, others write greeting cards, support programming for veterans, or help by delivering special items to those in care. We even have volunteers who use their talents for playing music or making care blankets to bring comfort to those we serve.”

Hosparus was founded by volunteers 45 years ago, and they still play a vital role in providing compassionate care, comfort and support to seriously ill patients and their caregivers to this day in Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble counties. Flexible options are available for those who have limited time each month to give. Volunteer managers work with volunteers to make sure they feel confident in their chosen roles and responsibilities.

Interested volunteers should apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteer. Participants must register to attend the training. Volunteers unable to join in July are encouraged to apply now and participate in a later session. Currently, new volunteer training classes are scheduled for August 23, September 12, October 21, November 9, and December 12, at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville, Kentucky, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. All volunteers must supply documentation for COVID-19 vaccination before starting.

For questions or general information about other volunteer opportunities at Hosparus Health, contact Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer at syeasayer@hosparus.org. “Every act, no matter how seemingly small, can make a big difference,” added Yeasayer. “Even letting your friends and family know about our need for volunteers helps strengthen our mission to enhance the lives of those facing serious illness in our community.”
