Free training on September 22 for new volunteers who want to use their talents to help improve the quality of life for those facing serious illness.

(BOWLING GREEN, KY) — Hosparus Health of Barren River is seeking volunteers who are interested in using their talents to help patients and families facing serious illnesses. The nonprofit organization is hosting its next free, in-person training for new volunteers on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (CST), at 101 Riverwood Ave Ste B, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The training is led by Hosparus Health of Barren River’s new Volunteer Manager, Tiffany Hinton (pictured), who recently joined the team to oversee the community office’s volunteer services. Hinton has extensive senior care experience and is excited to use her expertise to support the mission-driven organization across a 10-county service area.

“I have carried my compassion and respect for seniors throughout my career,” said Hinton. “I am thrilled for the opportunity to help Hosparus Health patients and families by providing an extra layer of support through our wonderful volunteer program.”

Hosparus Health was founded by volunteers 45 years ago, and they continue to play a vital role as members of the hospice team to this day. There are a variety of ways to get involved, from providing direct patient and family caregiver support to lending a hand behind the scenes, and volunteers are matched according to their interests.

“Often, our volunteers join us because they’ve had a personal experience with hospice care and want to give back by supporting patients and families who are facing a similar situation,” said Hinton. “Many know what it’s like to walk in the shoes of those caring for a loved one facing serious illness and know what a difference hospice makes during those difficult times. If you’re interested in extending this care to others, we will find a role that’s right for you.”

Hosparus Health of Barren River is a 2023 Hospice CAHPS Honors Award winner, and provides hospice, palliative care, and bereavement services to people of all ages. The community office supports patients and families in their homes and healthcare facilities throughout Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren counties, and no one is turned away if they are unable to pay.

Interested volunteers should apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteer before the training. Those unable to attend the September training are encouraged to apply and express their interest. The organization will contact them about later training opportunities. All volunteers complete a screening and meet certain health requirements, including documentation of COVID-19 vaccination before starting.

For information about volunteering or assistance with applying, contact Volunteer Manager Tiffany Hinton at thinton@hosparus.org or (270) 418-3715.
