New volunteers learn the skills to provide comfort and support at free training on December 16.

(LOUISVILLE, KY) — Hosparus Health invites compassionate individuals to join its mission by dedicating their time and talents to support local patients and families facing serious illnesses. The nonprofit organization is hosting a free, in-person training session for new volunteers on Saturday, December 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville.

“Our organization, founded by volunteers 45 years ago, continues to thrive due to the crucial role volunteers play in delivering compassionate care, comfort, and support to seriously ill patients and their caregivers in Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties,” stated Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer. “We are excited to start this season of giving by hosting a training for new volunteers who are willing to contribute their time and talent to help others in their community.”

Volunteer opportunities range from providing companionship to patients and respite for caregivers, supporting grief service programming, engaging in veteran initiatives, and connecting through shared interests in reading, music, or crafting. Furthermore, volunteers can contribute behind the scenes by offering administrative support or donating handmade care blankets. Flexible options are accessible for those with limited availability each month.

Prospective volunteers must apply at before the training. Those unable to attend in December are encouraged to apply and register for a session in early 2024. Volunteers must meet specific health requirements before starting.

For questions or general information about other volunteer opportunities at Hosparus Health, contact Sky Yeasayer at Yeasayer added, “This holiday season, I encourage you to give your time and compassion to comfort those in need. Join our volunteer training to learn how to offer your support.”
