Our patient is a man in his 40s who has been living with heart failure for some time. After the last of several hospitalizations, his doctors advised him and his wife that there was nothing more they could do.

They came home from the hospital in May of 2018, feeling lost, scared and abandoned. They planned a family cookout so they could all be together one more time, and made a list of things to do “just in case” to ensure his family was taken care of. They were preparing for the end.

When his home health aide visited, she encouraged the family to consider Hosparus Health. They were skeptical at first. But today, both the patient and his wife believe he would not be alive without our Heart Connection program. “The team provides us with so much support, we really feel like we matter and that they are not giving up on us.”

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.”

The couple says that its a miracle at just two years ago, he was given a week to live and now is able to watch his grandchildren grow up.

When his wife was asked what memories stand out for her over the last 2 years, she said: “All of them. He wasn’t supposed to be here for the birth of the last two grandchildren. He wasn’t supposed to be here for the Christmases we’ve shared with family or the 4th of July fishing trip at Rough River.

Thanks to Hosparus Health, they have taken lots of pictures and made countless memories that might not have been possible otherwise. “If I didn’t have Hosparus, I wouldn’t have my husband. We couldn’t have made it this far without them.”

We’re so grateful to help this wonderful couple continue to have special moments together!
