Free training on November 9 for new volunteers ready to make a difference in the lives of those in the community facing serious illnesses.

(LOUISVILLE, KY) — Hosparus Health is actively seeking volunteers willing to share their time and talent to support local patients and families dealing with serious illnesses in our community. To kick off the holiday season, the nonprofit organization is hosting a free, in-person volunteer training session on Thursday, November 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville.

“We are excited to start this season of giving by hosting a training for new volunteers who are willing to contribute their time and talent to help others in their community,” said Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer. “Our organization was founded by volunteers 45 years ago, and they still play a vital role in providing compassionate care, comfort, and support to seriously ill patients and their caregivers to this day in Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties.”

There is a wide range of opportunities to choose from, and volunteer managers work closely with each volunteer to find the role that’s right for them. Responsibilities can include offering companionship to patients and respite for caregivers, supporting the pediatric Kourageous Kids program, grief services, Veteran initiatives, and even sharing a love of reading, music, or crafting. Others can contribute to the organization behind the scenes with administrative assistance, writing letters and cards, making deliveries, and serving on committees. Flexible options are available for those who have limited time each month to give.

Prospective volunteers must apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteers before the training. Those unable to attend in November are encouraged to apply and register for a later session. The next training session is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 6200 Dutchmans Lane in Louisville. Volunteers must meet certain health requirements and provide documentation of COVID-19 vaccination before starting.

For questions or general information about other volunteer opportunities at Hosparus Health, contact Volunteer Manager Sky Yeasayer at syeasayer@hosparus.org. Yeasayer added, “Please join us this holiday season by offering patients and families facing serious illness the most meaningful gift you can give – your time in service of others.”
