Free training on November 28 for new volunteers ready to make a difference in the lives of those in the community facing serious illnesses.

(NEW ALBANY, IN) — Hosparus Health Southern Indiana is actively seeking volunteers willing to share their time and talent to support local patients and families dealing with serious illnesses across Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Orange, Scott, and Washington counties. To kick off the holiday season, the nonprofit organization is hosting a free, in-person volunteer training session on Tuesday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany.

“We are excited to kick off the season of giving by hosting a training for new volunteers who are willing to contribute their time and talent to help others in their community,” said Volunteer Manager Vonya Gresham. “There are a wide range of opportunities to choose from, and we work closely with each volunteer to find the role that’s right for them.”

Volunteer responsibilities include offering companionship to patients and respite for caregivers, supporting the pediatric Kourageous Kids program, grief services, Veteran initiatives, and even sharing a love of reading, music, or crafting. Others can contribute to the organization behind the scenes with administrative assistance, writing letters and cards, making deliveries, and serving on committees.

Prospective volunteers must apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteers by November 23. Those unable to attend the November training are encouraged to apply and register for a later session. All volunteers must meet certain health requirements and provide documentation of COVID-19 vaccination before starting.

“This holiday season, we hope you’ll join us by offering families facing serious illness the most meaningful gift you can give – your time,” said Gresham. “No matter your passion, if you have the desire to make a difference, we want to hear from you.”

For questions, general information, or to inquire about arranging training to suit your schedule, please contact Vonya Gresham at vgresham@hosparus.org or 812.542.2809.
