Free training on January 13th for new volunteers who are ready to make a real difference in the lives of those facing serious illness.

(NEW ALBANY, IN) — For those resolving to do something new in 2024, volunteering with Hosparus Health Southern Indiana is an experience unlike any other. The nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization is hosting a free training for new volunteers on Saturday, January 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany.

Volunteer responsibilities include providing companionship to patients and respite for caregivers, supporting grief services or Veteran initiatives, and even sharing a love of reading, music, or crafting. Other volunteers contribute to the organization behind the scenes with administrative assistance, writing letters and cards, making deliveries, and serving on committees.

“While many volunteers provide direct patient support and offer caregivers respite through home visits, we have a variety of opportunities to choose from,” said Hosparus Health Volunteer Manager Vonya Gresham. “Our goal is to help each volunteer discover where their time and talents can best support our mission.”

Prospective volunteers must apply at before the training. Those unable to attend are encouraged to apply and register for a later session. Currently, new volunteer training is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at our New Albany office on March 14, May 20, July 24, September 24, and November 18. Certain health requirements and documentation of COVID-19 vaccination are required for all volunteers before starting.

For questions, general information, or to inquire about arranging training to suit your schedule, please contact Vonya Gresham at or 812.542.2809.
