Free training will be held on July 19 for new volunteers wanting to enhance the lives of those facing illnesses.
(NEW ALBANY, IN) — Hosparus Health of Southern Indiana is seeking volunteers willing to use their interests and passions to help patients and families facing serious illnesses in their communities. The nonprofit organization is hosting a free, in-person volunteer training session on Wednesday, July 19, from 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m., at 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany.
“While many volunteers provide direct patient support and offer their caregivers respite through home visits, we have a variety of opportunities to choose from,” said Volunteer Manager Vonya Gresham. “Our goal is to help each volunteer discover where their time and talents can best support our mission to improve the quality of life for those facing serious illnesses in our community.”
Hosparus Health was founded by volunteers 45 years ago and they still play a key role in providing compassionate care and comfort to seriously ill patients and their caregivers to this day. Volunteers can provide presence and support to patients, respite to their caregivers, bereavement care, and veteran-to-veteran companionship. “There are practically limitless ways a person can volunteer with Hosparus Health,” added Gresham. “Volunteers help behind the scenes by writing cards, making deliveries, providing clerical support, and even helping with special fundraising events, including Dancing with our Southern Indiana Stars, coming to the area on September 12.”
Interested volunteers should apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteer by July 12. Volunteers unable to attend the July training are encouraged to apply and register for a later session. Currently, new volunteer training sessions are scheduled for September 14 and November 28. All remaining 2023 sessions will take place at 502 Hausfeldt Lane, New Albany, Indiana, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. All volunteers must supply documentation for COVID-19 vaccination before starting.
For questions, general information, or to inquire about scheduling training to meet your schedule, contact Vonya Gresham at vgresham@hosparus.org or (812) 542-2809. “Deciding to lend your support, at any level, can make such a real difference for patients and families in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Orange, Scott, and Washington counties,” said Gresham. “Even spreading the word to others about our need for volunteers helps us strengthen our mission to enhance the quality of life for all those we serve.”
