This is why we do what we do! Below is a letter we received from the husband of one of our patients. He generously agreed to let us share his kind words. We were honored to walk alongside them on their end-of-life journey.

Re: Elise Medinger

Dear Hosparus:

My wife, Elise Medinger, was a hospice patient from her hospital discharge in October until her death from metastatic bladder cancer in early December. We could not have been more pleased with the care she received. The team –  particularly our nurse and doctor, Melanie Wheeler and Lori Earnshaw – were kind, compassionate, and informative in dealing with Elise, our families, and me; they of course also were skilled and professional in the medical care they provided.

Our weekend, on-call, and fill-in nurses handled Elise’s care, and our questions and concerns, promptly and capably. Although we had limited need for chaplain and social worker services, our interaction with those team members was delightful. In addition, we were always able to reach, and get prompt and accurate responses from, other staff via the 24-hour line, and received supplies and prescriptions in a timely manner.

All of this allowed Elise to make the most of her two remaining months of life, surrounded in person or electronically by family and friends, and to die in a sunfilled room at home. Our sincere thanks to HHL and to Elise’s team members for easing this painful transition for us all.

 Sincerely,

David A. Friedman
