Johnnie and Thelma Davis have been married more than 70 years. They’ve raised a family together, and walked hand-in-hand through all of life’s joys and challenges. Now, thanks to Hosparus Health Green River (HGR), they’re able to spend their final chapter together in their Campbellsville home.
“I’m so thankful for Hosparus Health’s care because it’s kept them from having to go to a nursing home, which is more important now with COVID pandemic,” says their son, Lonnie. “We would not have been able to visit them at all.”
Spending time with his parents is very important to Lonnie, his wife, Charlotte, and his sister, Donna. Johnnie is 90 years old, in a wheelchair with a combination of health issues, including dementia. Thelma is 87, has Parkinson’s disease and struggles with arthritis. The couple was admitted to our hospice program in February.
Lonnie is beyond grateful for the support his parents are receiving. He says, “They’re getting the best care, and doing as well as they possibly can.”
Hosparus Health has helped make his parents more comfortable, and taken away the burden of worrying about their care, Lonnie says. Plus, choosing hospice care early is allowing the family to make the most of the time they have left. “It gives us more time to sit down and talk, and just be with family, without having to be in a rush. It’s a tremendous help.”
Lonnie says both his parents look forward to visits from their HGR care team. “They’re jolly, and perk mom and dad up. It’s wonderful. Mom and dad love what the Hosparus staff are doing for them.”
Lonnie adds he gets peace of mind knowing Hosparus Health is just a phone call away. “They tell me to call them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It makes no difference what time. We’ve got the phone numbers on the refrigerator.”
Lonnie and Charlotte, who live just down the road, do a lot of day-to-day tasks (housekeeping, errands, etc.) for Johnnie and Thelma. Donna lives out of town, but often comes to stay with her parents a few nights a week. Though they are all happy to do their part, it has been invaluable to have an extra layer of medical, emotional and spiritual support.
“There’s no doubt that the staff at Hosparus Health bend over backwards to help in any way,” Lonnie says. “And they’re just as helpful to me and my wife and sister as they are to mom and dad. I would highly recommend Hosparus Health to anyone.”
From all of us at Hosparus Health, we want to thank the Davises for allowing us to care for Johnnie and Thelma during this difficult time. We are so grateful to support this wonderful family!
