Hosparus Health is saddened to share the passing of Dr. George Webb, a distinguished physician, volunteer, and a pioneer in hospice care. Together with his wife, Pat—one of the nonprofit’s founders and first nurses—Dr. Webb made a profound impact on our organization and the community we serve.

Dr. Webb began his career as a practicing anesthesiologist before becoming one of Hosparus Health’s first hospice physicians. His commitment to hospice and palliative care was evident when he began working alongside Dr. Joe Rotella in our inpatient unit in 1999, at a time when these specialties were not yet formally recognized in medical practice.

“Dr. Webb has been a cornerstone of our organization since its inception,” said Dr. Bethany Snider, Chief Medical Officer. “His contributions as a hospice physician and later as a dedicated volunteer have left an indelible mark on our community.”

He authored two important resources, Cultural Diversity in America: How Different Cultures Approach End of Life and The Disease Progression Sheets, which have served as invaluable resources for both Hosparus Health staff and the broader medical community.

Beyond his work with Hosparus Health, Dr. Webb was instrumental in the hospice program at the Kentucky State Reformatory, where he educated prison physicians and successfully implemented compassionate touch for terminally ill inmates, significantly enhancing care for those patients.

Dr. Webb was a man of many talents and interests. He was a ballroom dancer, orchid grower, painter, sculptor, and musician.

We invite the community to join us in honoring Dr. Webb’s remarkable legacy and celebrating his life. His vision, leadership, and compassion have left an enduring impact on hospice care and on the lives of countless individuals.
