“Sharing wisdom, personal experience, and compassion has brought me a wealth of joy.” — Jim Pilbean

The holidays can be a time of reflection, especially for those who have lost loved ones. For Jim Pilbean, the season brings memories of his mother’s passing in 2005. As you read about Jim’s journey from grief to giving, please consider donating to our new Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center, ensuring families receive compassionate care when they need it most.

My Mother’s Passing Led Me to a New Life

In 2005, my mom was a Hosparus Health hospice patient. After she passed away that November, I attended a grief counseling session, expecting it to be a waste of time. I was wrong. I completed that session, and then another, eventually becoming a co-facilitator for a support group for adults who’ve lost a parent. That experience changed my life.

Since then, I’ve had the honor of volunteering in many ways — whether with Kourageous Kids, Camp Evergreen, the Grief Counseling Center, or in the Inpatient Care Unit. I’m also part of the “11th Hour” team, supporting patients and families in their final days. This work has truly become my calling.

Over the past 17 years, I’ve learned that giving takes many forms. For me, it began as a way to heal from my own grief, but it’s become about helping others heal from theirs. I know you share this same passion. Every volunteer — no matter if you’re helping with crafts, visiting patients and families, handling administrative work, or working at one of our thrift shoppes — plays a crucial role in our mission of compassion.

Join Me in Helping Others Receive Compassionate Care

As we approach the giving season, I’d like to ask you to consider another way of giving. Volunteering is invaluable, but more families still need our care. That’s why I’ve also chosen to give financially, knowing that every gift, no matter the size, helps extend our reach.

The next step in expanding our services is the new Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center, set to break ground in 2025. This facility will offer a sanctuary of peace and dignity for patients and families during their final stages of life. Please consider being part of this compassionate movement by donating today. Your contribution will help us grow our mission and help countless other families receive the right care at the right time and place.

Thank you for everything you do. I’m honored to serve alongside you.

With gratitude,
Jim Pilbean
