Training on May 14 for new volunteers wanting to support individuals facing serious illnesses.

(LOUISVILLE, KY) — Hosparus Health is calling for compassionate individuals to join its mission by dedicating their time and talents to support local patients and families facing serious illnesses throughout Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble counties. The nonprofit organization is hosting a free, in-person training session for new volunteers on Tuesday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at 6200 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville.

There are a variety of opportunities available for those interested in lending their time. Volunteers offer companionship to patients and respite for caregivers, support grief services, engage in Veteran initiatives, and connect through shared interests in reading, music, or crafting. Others contribute to the organization behind the scenes with administrative assistance, writing letters and cards, and making deliveries.

“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization, providing essential care and companionship to those in need,” said Senior Manager of Volunteer Services Sylvia Johnson. “This May, we are excited to welcome new volunteers who are ready to make a positive impact in the lives of others.”

To ensure volunteers are comfortable with their roles and responsibilities, volunteer managers collaborate closely with individuals to find the position that is right for them. For those with limited time each month to give, flexible volunteer options are available. Currently, the organization is especially in need of patient care volunteers who visit patients wherever they call home.

Prospective volunteers must apply at hosparushealth.org/volunteers by May 10 for this month’s training. Anyone unable to attend may apply now and register for later training. In Louisville, sessions are scheduled for June 7, and July 20, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dutchmans Lane office. COVID-19 vaccinations are no longer required for volunteers. However, the organization will continue to uphold certain health requirements to ensure the safety of our patients and volunteers.
