A New Safety Solution for Hosparus Health Staff
Last year, our compassionate care team traveled more than 3.3 million miles across 41 counties in Kentucky and Southern Indiana to patient homes, hospitals, nursing homes, and other locations to bring needed care and comfort to patients and their families. From certified nursing assistants and chaplains to social workers, nurses, and physicians, our team has supported more than 10,000 patients—many in the familiarity and safety of their own homes.
Because our staff serves patients in a wide range of care environments, our staff’s personal safety remains a top priority. To further support our staff, we’re equipping them with KATANA Safety, a mobile safety solution that offers 24/7 live safety support at the touch of a button.
In moments of safety uncertainty, every second matters. KATANA Safety allows staff to discreetly trigger an alarm on their phone at the touch of a button, connecting them directly with KATANA’s specially trained emergency response team. This rapid-response capability can aid in de-escalating tense situations for staff and, when needed, initiating emergency dispatch.
The KATANA Safety system includes a unique “Walk with Me” feature. This feature connects staff with a live KATANA operator who monitors them through their cell phone’s GPS location and stays on the line until they arrive safely at their destination, offering them peace of mind when navigating unfamiliar or isolated areas.
“Our care providers are incredibly flexible, seeing patients wherever they call home. Knowing that they can get immediate assistance whenever they need it with a live, trained person gives them confidence,” said Melissa Merrifield, Chief Human Resources Officer at Hosparus Health. “It allows them to shift their focus back on delivering the highest-quality care to our patients.”
If a staff member is unable to speak or communicate during an emergency, KATANA Safety can transmit staff GPS coordinates to emergency services—an especially vital feature in rural or remote areas where specific addresses and locales may be difficult to identify.
