The donation fuels the groundbreaking of a new Hospice Care Center, transforming community hospice care in Louisville and Southern Indiana
Hosparus Health is excited to announce a transformative donation from the Republic Bank Foundation to support construction of a new, innovative Hospice Care Center that will serve families in Louisville and across the region. This generous gift helps Hosparus Health reach its fundraising goal just ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony on September 16.
The nearly 30,000-square-foot facility, located at 3526 Ephraim McDowell Drive in Louisville, will be Hosparus Health’s first stand-alone Hospice Care Center. Designed to feel like a retreat, rather than a hospital, it will feature:
- 21 patient rooms with private ensuite bathrooms and showers
- A chapel and meditation space
- A family kitchen and gathering areas
- Serene outdoor spaces, including a healing garden and patio accessible to hospital beds
“For many caregivers, the decision to move a loved one into inpatient care can be heart-wrenching. However, when symptoms become too complex to manage at home, this center will offer a sanctuary of comfort and dignity,” emphasized Sara Williams, VP of Specialty Hospice Care. “It will also provide much-needed short-term respite for caregivers, allowing them to rest and regroup with the peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is in trusted and compassionate hands.”
More than 850 families received inpatient and respite services from Hosparus Health last year alone.
“This partnership with Hosparus is a key initiative in our mission to help our communities thrive, not just in times of growth, but also in times of need,” Republic Bank Executive Chair Steve Trager said. “We’re proud to stand alongside an organization that shares our commitment to empathy and community well-being. Together, we aim to ensure that every person receives the compassionate care they deserve.”
Tawanda Owsley, SVP and Chief Development and Marketing Officer, expressed her gratitude for the Republic Bank Foundation’s support: “Our long-standing partnership with Republic Bank has been instrumental, from their leadership on our board to their strategic guidance on our capital projects. This generous gift will profoundly impact the lives of those we serve, enabling us to provide the highest level of care and support to our patients and their families.”
Mission and Community Impact
The Hospice Care Center will:

- Unite inpatient care and grief counseling services on a single campus, just minutes from Hosparus Health headquarters and local clinical offices
- Expand regional healthcare capacity
- Provide a tranquil neighborhood setting to reduce stress for patients and visitors, with easy access to restaurants and major roadways
- Serve as the final phase of Hosparus Health’s Places of Compassion campaign, an over $13 million initiative that also funded the Harshaw Family Grief Counseling Center and the William B. and Janet B. Schmidt PACE Center in Elizabethtown.
